Meet Djeneé Dunn of D.TAMU and Prymel Elements!

Born and raised in the US Virgin Islands, Djeneé Dunn made Tampa, Florida, her home upon graduating from the University of Tampa with a BA in Advertising and Public relations in 2013. She’s the Founder of D.TAMU, Inc. and the co-owner of Branding Agency, Prymel Elements, with her business partner, Allysen Kerr. Djeneé loves every aspect of branding, including content development, graphic + web design, and strategy.

She’s no nonsense when it comes to making self care a part of her daily practice as a busy (and newly engaged!) entrepreneur. Djeneé is also a pro at finding the humor and beauty in her journey as a business owner and encourages everyone she meets to be open to trying new things that help create happiness in their lives.

Tell us about yourself and what you do!

At my core, I am a creator. Whether it's through my business, or in my personal life, I truly enjoy creating things that make people happy and make me feel fulfilled. To me, being a creator means that I get to bring something to life. Businesses, art, words...they all require some form of creativity and having a hand in discovering how beautiful something can be is incredible.

How did your business begin?

I started my company in 2016 and quickly experienced this amazing shift in what my life looked life. I started realizing how much I wanted to make it work and daydreaming about what my life could look like. In 2020, I merged my company with another amazing boss babe and we formed Prymel Elements.

What's 1 challenge you've faced and how has it effected your business? What did you do to overcome it?

Forming a partnership has been both challenging and rewarding. It's not just about you anymore. There's so many intricate puzzle pieces that have to fit together so that it all works. From our team members, creating productive systems, to deciding how you pay one another; they're all things we speak about often. The great thing is, as owners, we can change and adjust whenever it makes the most sense.

What's 1 success you've had since you’ve created your business? How do you feel when you look back on it?

One of my favorite moments is after filing my 2018 taxes and realizing I had crossed the 6-figure threshold. I had only been on my own for 2 years. I knew I could do it. I just didn't realize it was actually happening!

What's the best piece of advice you could give someone looking to start a business?

Take breaks, and take them early! We've got to get out of this 24/7 hustle mentality. Burnout is real. It's exhausting and it literally makes you sick. You've got to take care of yourself in order to keep your business going. So make sure you're doing that.

What's a pivot you've made in your business?

Merging with my business partner has probably been the biggest pivot I've made so far.

When are you at your happiest?

I'm my happiest when things are flowing smoothly and clients are happy.

What do you tell yourself when things get difficult?

There's a mimosa waiting for you at the end of the week.

Whats 1 personal goal you've set for yourself this year?

I recently started taking Friday's off for my sanity. I trust my team to take care of things while I'm away and they do. It's become increasingly easier to just let them handle the things they've been hired to handle because they regularly prove their value and truly enjoy working with us.

What's 1 business goal you've set for yourself to accomplish this year?

Raising prices!

What's the first thing you do on a Monday morning and why?

I sleep in a little later and try not to have any client meetings. I ease into checking emails so that I don't feel overwhelmed.

Where can you be found + what will you typically be up to on a Friday night?

If I'm not home, I'm probably grabbing end-of-week drinks or dinner with my girls or on a date with my fiancé.

Finish These Sentences:
My go to karaoke song is… Anything Lauryn Hill!

My signature drink is… Mimosasssssss!!! Or vodka sprite, with grenadine....depends on the week, lol

My favorite quote is..."F it…"
