Tell us about yourself and what you do!
I'm an independent financial advisor in Tampa. I specialize in financial planning and primarily work with business owners, women, and those who are navigating life transition such as divorce or career change.
How did your business begin?
I've been licensed since 2004 and in financial services my entire career, in a variety of roles. I transitioned to personal wealth management a few years ago and went independent in July 2020.
What's 1 challenge you've faced and how has it effected your business? What did you do to overcome it?
Growing my business during COVID-19 is the most obvious challenge. We're all still navigating this incredibly stressful time, and grieving our old lives in many ways. Acknowledging that it's a tragedy and the tremendous stress it has caused to so many, it has been an opportunity for the business community to shift and grow like we had never thought we could.
The pandemic has had a way of encouraging all of us to become more introspective, and to seek out the very best to protect their families. It's human nature to not want to make a change when things are going well, but interestingly, on the business side, the crisis and the market volatility has been a wake-up call to clients to seek out financial planning or investment advice that had been put off for so long.
People seem less interested in being DIY investors, and are more receptive to having a second opinion on their investment portfolio now. They are looking for someone who offers holistic financial planning and wealth management services. Fortunately, our team has been and continues to stand ready to offer that guidance that is so critical to financial success.
Like anything in life, business growth starts with meticulous planning and lots of work behind the scenes. Then, it comes down to execution...getting it done day in and day out, and never giving up.
What's 1 success you've had since you’ve created your business? How do you feel when you look back on it?
Helping a client who is navigating a difficult divorce - financially and emotionally. She was referred to me by a friend, so it meant a lot to me. It feels good to know I helped make a positive difference in her life.
What's the best piece of advice you could give someone looking to start a business?
If you have the grit and want to succeed, you will.
What's a pivot you've made in your business?
I try to learn something new or improve on something every day, whether it's integrating new technology or how to implement a new client program. Not pivoting is not an option.
When are you at your happiest?
When I'm spending time with my entire family (husband, 2 kids and 2 rescue pups!)!
What do you tell yourself when things get difficult?
I keep pushing. It's important to find outlets to channel stress - for me it's exercise and surrounding myself with my family and friends.
What’s 1 personal goal you've set for yourself this year?
To get the word out about my business. There are a lot of people who need help but don't know where to start.
What's 1 business goal you've set for yourself to accomplish this year?
I would like to focus on growing more ideal clients - women, business owners, and those who are experiencing a transition such as career change or divorce.
What's the first thing you do on a Monday morning and why?
Besides walking the dogs and getting kids to school, I start by setting my intentions for the upcoming week. Even if it's on the car ride.
Where can you be found + what will you typically be up to on a Friday night?
These days I'm home with the kids and pups, reading or watching a movie.
